The self-proclaimed "Home of
Underground Rock," CBGB (Country,
Blue Grass, and Blues) was a music club at 315
Bowery at
Bleecker Street
,
New York City
, New York.
Founded by Hilly Kristal in 1973, it was originally
intended to feature its namesake musical styles, but
became a forum for American punk and punk-influenced
bands like Ramones, Misfits, Television, the Patti
Smith Group, Mink DeVille, The Dead Boys, The
Dictators, The Fleshtones, The Voidoids, Blondie, The
Shirts, and Talking Heads.
Years ago, working as a
musician, I was fortunate enough to play CBGB's twice
before they closed in 2006. I'm proud to have
been a small part of CB's history and I will never
forget the smell. |
