ARTIST STATEMENT:   Why did the caveman record triumphant hunts and hand-prints on cave walls?  The same reason Neil Armstrong planted the American flag in the Sea Of Tranquility. . . . . Immortality.

The closest we can come to immortality is through creation. I am interested in shapes, particularly the shapes of the human form; I believe that there is something unique about everyone. In the grocery store I find myself studying the skull shape of the customer in front of me . . . admiring the beauty of the woman breast-feeding in public . . . scrutinizing the studied, sad expression of the drunk - - broke at the bar- - wishing someone will notice his distress and buy him another round.

My main medium is watercolor. I like the fact that watercolor is unforgiving - - like life. Once you make the stroke it’s there and there’s no erasing it.

The poet Charles Bukowski wrote a line that reads “while the rest of them stack gold and Cadillacs and lady friends, I wonder about palm leaves, gravestones and the preciousness of a cocoon-like sleep.”

I say AMEN! I say HALLELUIAH!  I mean, why have an interest in stacking gold when you can create it?
